Hi all, I received my acceptance letter today. Very exciting! I'll be entering the Photography program this September. Just one question. What exactly is a "quiet space" residence hall? I figure it has something to do with strict noise levels. Could someone clarify, please? Which halls are the quite space ones? Thanks!

i graduated last year and they've changed all the dorms since i went to aib but i think the idea of "quiet space" sounds like a joke. i don't know if you're asking because you like or don't like strict quiet, but if you do, maybe you should get a studio apartment lol...the majority of us stayed up until all hours pretty frequently and i don't think i ever lived in a "quiet" dorm. not to say that it's like living in a frat house or something, but you're living with at least 30 other
art kids so there just ain't gonna be much quiet.
i'd be curious to know what that is though anyway.
& congratulations, good luck! :D

oh jesus. i'm glad i'm not at aib anymore. i wish they would just give up on this whole "harmony between lesley girls and aib kids" thing like we asked them to a couple years ago. we're not toddlers, we're perfectly capable of making friends with lesley girls IF WE WANTED TO.

Thanks for the warning. I do prefer not to live in a place with thin walls. I've been reading some of your other comments on this community. Lawrence Hall seems pretty cool. I think I'll put it down as my first choice.

Haha, yeah, as it's been said, I wouldn't take that question too seriously. At most, a 'quiet space' dorm may have earlier quiet hours, but I wouldn't count on them being strictly enforced. If you do, however, want to live in a quieter place, look into attempting a room at Mellen, Reed, or Wendell house.
First, you're living in an actual house, thus fewer people to begin with. Two, you get to know pretty much everyone in the house, meaning it's a lot easier to ask someone to quiet down should you need to. My first year was spent in Mellen, and I've very little to complain about it.
Either way, welcome to AIB. ..Advent Children? All kinds of awesome. ;3

Thank youuu. Yes, Advent Children. It seems many people at AIB are going to be awesome.

More than totally welcome, m'dear. For the most part, I have to agree with that prediction. I'm stuck with a grand bunch of idiots I wouldn't trade for the world. No doubt exuding awesome will acquire you the same.

I'm pretty sure that the "quiet space" dorms are just floors of other dorms like- floor 4 of Wolfard dorm is a quiet space, but the other floors aren't. ...or something ridiculous like that.
either way, I doubt they're very strict, and if you end up somewhere you hate, you can try to find someone to switch rooms with you.

If you want quiet, DON'T LIVE IN WHITE HALL. That's all I have to say. I lived in Doble freshman year and White sophomore year, and the difference is amazing. Doble was much more quiet - there are less people, separate floors for boys and girls (though it's all connected openly, which is nice). I stay up til 4 in the morning sometimes and noise doesn't bother me. What bothers me is drunk people screaming when I have a final in the morning and I'm trying to sleep. If you live in Doble that shouldn't be a problem. Houses are good, too.

Thanks for the advice. Drunk people are annoying but probably unavoidable in college. I'm not quiet obsessed but I think avoiding White Hall seems like a good idea.

Not sure but at my old college, Quiet space usually meant no noise period.
Welcome to AIB too, I'm transferring there this Fall as well ^_^
